Legacy BG Hogaak Lands

With the popular Modern Menace Hogaak getting all the attention, I think it deserves more positive reactions. As someone who loves playing Lands in Legacy, here is a list of BR Turbo Lands that utilizes Hogaak as a secondary wincon to Marit Lage. For the most part the list isn’t far from what it was before Hogaak was printed - except for the self mill package. Notably this list is missing Life From the Loam which is a little too slow for the deck (trying to have either Big Baddie in play on turn 2) so the Hogaak enablers just replace it.

What I love about this deck is its consistency. The fact that you can turn 2 Hogaak or turn 2 Marit Lage is amazing. If your opponent isn’t on white (which currently is most likely because there are very few people playing D&T or Maverick) you usually just have it in the bag. Because we aren’t playing Wrenn and Six the deck is quite a bit faster than RG Lands but also more fragile. If our Vampire Hexmage or Hogaak gets countered we don’t have a fun time. We no longer suffer completely if our opponent Wasteland’s our Dark Depths because we can cast Hogaak instead.

Personally, I don’t like this deck as much as the RG Lands deck but I think the price difference between the two decks is worth playing this because the only expensive parts are the Bayous, Diamonds and Fetches as opposed to Wrenn and Six, Taigas, Groves, Tabernacle, Wastelands, Ports, etc, etc, etc. The cheap price of this deck is definitely worth the results as this deck has Top 8ed a lot of events recently because its ability to be faster than Miracles and Wasteland decks.

If you’re new to Legacy or looking for a second deck to build that won’t break the bank, this is a good starting option - and who knows maybe one day you’ll have the pieces for both RG and BG Lands so you can play one or the other depending on the state of the format.
